Boone, NC

 

A fine, cold morning in October in Boone, NC. Sitting atop my picnic table at Grandfather Campground west of Boone, waiting for my coffee water to boil. When I woke up, my sleeping bag was frosted over.

A good weekend of bouldering at Hound Ears, junior team and all.

Pulled this pebble off the picnic table boulder. Almost crushed my nuts. Not kidding.

Seneca Rocks

 

After a long hard day of climbing at Seneca Rocks, Alex Uy and I kicked back on the "Front Porch" and had some pizza and beer. I captured this picture there, sometime back in 2004 I think.

Anyhow, the jagged ridge of Seneca rises out of the West Virginia hillside and almost adjoins the granite/sandstone ridge across the minor valley. The major, southern ridge is known as the "Coxcomb", and other areas such as the green wall and the Ecstasy buttress are also in plain sight.

A great crag, though a tad on the busy side. Just a tad...

Good, fun route though not the best there. Solid beginning, but it tapers off and settles down after some good 11b/c climbing.
